New Delhi: Taapsee Pannu has been continuously doing films on subjects related to women, but in many films of the actress, no big male star of Bollywood has been cast opposite her. Vidya Balan recently told how difficult it is to cast a big male actor or newcomer in the kind of films she does. A similar problem is being seen with Taapsee Pannu as well. When Taapsee reached for the promotion of her next film ‘Rashmi Rocket’, she spoke on this issue.
During an interaction with BollywoodLife, Taapsee said, ‘Yes, it is a problem and I have spoken about it very openly. Casting a big male star in a film involving women has been a problem. Those who have barely done a film, also think that it is not right to play a role less than a girl in the film, as it can spoil their image. So, for most of my films, which have been written from the perspective of women, casting a male actor has been a problem.
Many male actors feel insecure about working in films related to women. Taapsee says, ‘It takes a very secure actor to do that kind of role. So, whenever you see an actor opposite an actress in a woman’s story, one thing is for sure that that actor is feeling very secure, because the biggest stars don’t want to do that role because they have to. Perhaps there is a doubt that her role will not get equal attention as a female character.
She further says, ‘However, women do not feel like this in films, where their role is less than that of male actors. Even in a film like ‘Mission Mangal’ which has five girls, Akshay Kumar has been placed at the top. But, I don’t think any of us had any problem with who had more or less screen space.
