New Delhi: Shammi Kapoor and Ashok Kumar had never worked together in any film. Although they worked together in an advertisement. In the 90s, Shammi and Ashok came together to advertise a tobacco brand. The ad became so popular that fans of Shammi and Kapoor family were singing the jingle of that ad at the Hong Kong airport.
Although Shammi had faced such a situation before, his brother and actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor did not like this sight. In a video shared on YouTube, Shammi is seen revealing the incident. He had told that he had been told a lot by Raj at the Hong Kong airport.
The actor told that after entering the airport, Raj took him aside and asked, ‘Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?’ Shammi did not know what to say on this. He said, ‘What have I done?’ To this Raj Kapoor said, ‘Your contributions to the film industry, where you worked as an actor, ‘Junglee’, ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, where are they all? it’s all over!’ People will now remember you through Paan Parag.
He further says, ‘He was right in his place, but how would I tell him that it was my sincere desire to work with Ashok Kumar and the only opportunity I got to work with him was from that advertisement. Advertisement of Paan Parag. It was fun, it was a lot of fun.’ Shammi acted in many hit films of the 1950s. These include ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha’, ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Junglee’, ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’, ‘Third Manzil’ and ‘An Evening in Paris’. He was last seen in the film ‘Rockstar’. The film was released soon after his death in 2011.
