Rahul Gandhi came out in support of Shami, said – forgive such people


New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday backed cricketer Mohammed Shami, who was targeted by people on social media after India’s first defeat to Pakistan in the history of the Cricket World Cup. . Gandhi urged Shami to forgive such people, saying they are “filled with hatred as no one gives them love”. India lost to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday and Shami proved to be the most expensive bowler. Mohammed Shami conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs.

Rahul Gandhi said in his tweet, ‘Mohammed Shami, we are all with you. These people are full of hatred because no one gives them love. Forgive them.’ Several other leaders including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lok Sabha member Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed their support for the cricketer, condemning the social media trolls targeting Shami’s religious identity.

Former and present players of India including Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh also extended their support to Shami. Shami has been one of India’s best fast bowlers in recent times and has done well in the last five years. Trolls on social media linked his general performance on Sunday night to his religion, which did not go down well with many and many of them extended their support to Shami.

Actually this whole matter is related to India losing by 10 wickets to Pakistan in the first match of ICC T20 World Cup. After India’s crushing defeat, only bowler Mohammed Shami was trolled on social media and many objectionable things were said. Whereas bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja could not show any special effect in this match.
