IPL 2021: Dhoni’s winning four after Rituraj-Uthappa’s amazing, Chennai beat Delhi and entered the final


New Delhi. Three-time champion Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals (DC vs CSK) by 4 wickets in the first qualifier of IPL-2021 on Sunday. With this victory, the team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni also made it to the final of this prestigious T20 league for the 9th time. In this match played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Delhi scored 172 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Chennai achieved the target on the basis of half-centuries from Rituraj Gaikwad (70) and Robin Uthappa (63) for the loss of 6 wickets with 2 balls to spare. Captain Dhoni (18 *) hit the winning four.

Chennai made a place in the title match with this win, but the journey of Delhi is not over yet. He will now face the winner of the Eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier on October 13 in Sharjah. If Rishabh Pant’s team wins then they will face Chennai again in the final.

Chennai needed 13 runs to win in the last over and Tom Karen got Moeen Ali (16) caught by Rabada on the very first ball. Ali hit 2 fours in his innings of 12 balls. Then Dhoni sent the next two balls for fours. Then only 5 runs were needed from 3 balls to win, after which Karen bowled wide and Dhoni hit the winning four on the next ball. Dhoni hit 3 fours and 1 six in his unbeaten innings of 6 balls.

Chasing the target of 173 runs from Delhi, Chennai’s first wicket fell on the fourth ball of the first over. Faf du Plessis (1) was bowled by Enrique Norkhia. After this, Rituraj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa strengthened Chennai by sharing 110 runs for the second wicket. Both hit half-centuries. Tom Karen broke this partnership by getting Uthappa caught by Shreyas Iyer on the third ball of the 14th over of the innings. Uthappa hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in his innings of 44 balls. Shardul Thakur landed at number 4 but returned on the last ball of the same over. He could not even open the account and was caught by Shreyas Iyer.

Ambati Rayudu (1) was run out in an unfortunate manner and Chennai’s score was 119 for 4 wickets. After this, Gaikwad led the innings with Moeen Ali and added 30 runs for the 5th wicket. Gaikwad was caught by Axar Patel on the first ball of the 19th over of the innings. He played Avesh Khan’s ball in the air but Axar took a brilliant catch at deep mid-wicket. Tom Karen took 3 wickets for Delhi while Norkhia and Avesh Khan got 1-1 wickets.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss in this match and invited Delhi to bat first. Delhi scored 172 for 5 thanks to the brilliant half-centuries of young opener Prithvi Shaw and captain Rishabh Pant. Captain Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 51 off 35 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes while Prithvi scored 60 runs in 34 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Prithvi completed his fifty in just 27 balls.

After this Pant showed amazing and he returned unbeaten after scoring 51 runs while batting at number 5. Pant shared an 83-run partnership for the 5th wicket with Shimron Hetmyer. Hetmyer was caught by Bravo on the fourth ball of the 19th over of the innings at the hands of Jadeja. He hit 3 fours and 1 six in his innings of 24 balls.

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi a good start and added 36 runs for the first wicket in 3.1 overs. Dhoni (7) was caught by Dhoni on the second ball of the fourth over of Josh Hazlewood’s innings. Shreyas Iyer became the victim of Hazlewood by scoring just 1 run. He was caught by Rituraj Gaikwad. Akshar, who came to bat at number four, was sent to the pavilion by Moeen Ali on a personal score of 10 runs. Prithvi returned to the pavilion on the team’s score of 80 when he was caught by Faf du Plessis off Ravindra Jadeja’s ball.
