United Nations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday slammed China, saying India’s support to Africa has always been unconditional or without a hidden agenda. “We have worked with Africa in line with its priorities, convenience and aspirations,” Jaishankar said at the UN Security Council’s open discussion on ‘Cooperation between the United Nations and Sub-Regional Organizations (African Union)’. We believe that growing Africa is essential for true multi-polarity in the global order, and we are committed to doing so.”

“India’s support has always been unconditional or without any hidden agenda. This is evident from our 184 projects implemented under concessional funding in 41 African countries. can be seen.

The international community needs to heed the African voice
At the same time, the External Affairs Minister also said that the continuous denial of representation of African countries in the permanent membership of the UN Security Council is a ‘blot’ on the collective authenticity of the Council. The foreign minister said, “The international community needs to pay attention to the African voice and thinking. No one knows Africa better than Africans. We have seen in history that the interests of the African people are not served by offering external solutions to African problems without involving Africa. There is a need to change this narrow thinking.

Jaishankar said that the change should start in the Security Council itself.

Underlining the need for African countries to support counter-terrorism operations, he said the spread of terrorism in Africa is a matter of great concern, as reflected in the challenges faced by the Sahel, Somalia and Central and East Africa.

Jaishankar said the initiatives of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom), the G-5 Sahel Joint Force and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) needed more support from the Security Council and the international community.

He said that India supports the call of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to support counter-terrorism operations in Africa. Jaishankar said that India believes from its own experience that the root cause of conflicts in Africa lies in its colonial history.
