BJP will remain at the center of Indian politics, will remain here for many decades: Prashant Kishor

Panaji/Kolkata. Election strategist Prashant Kishor has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will remain at the center of Indian politics and “it is not going to go anywhere for the next several decades”, whether it wins or loses. Kishor, who is preparing a strategy for the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) victory in the Goa Assembly elections 2022, took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his thinking that people would immediately uproot the BJP. The TMC said that Kishor is not a member of the party and the statements are his personal while the Congress wondered whether the remarks indicated an behind the scenes understanding between the election strategist, TMC and the BJP. The saffron party said that the entire country agrees with Prashant Kishor’s statement as he is famous in political circles. A video has gone viral in which Kishor is seen addressing a private meeting in Goa.

A senior leader of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) confirmed that the video was from a private meeting held on Wednesday. Kishor heads the I-PAC. Reacting to the statement, the Congress accused the TMC of entering state politics to “divide the secular vote and benefit the ruling BJP”. At the same time, the party alleged that the agenda of the Mamata Banerjee-led party has been exposed by Kishor’s statement. In the video, Kishor is seen saying, “Whether the Bharatiya Janata Party wins or loses, it will remain at the center of politics, as it was for the Congress in the first 40 years, the BJP is not going anywhere.” He said, ‘Once you get more than 30 percent votes at the Indian level, then you are not going anywhere soon. So, never fall into the trap that people are angry with Modi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and they will uproot him. Kishor said, “Maybe they remove Modi, but the BJP is not going anywhere. They will be here, you will have to fight for it for the next several decades. It will not happen soon.’

Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the election strategist said, “This is the problem with Rahul Gandhi. Maybe he thinks that it is only a matter of days that people will reject him (Modi). This is not going to happen.’ Significantly, Kishor had prepared a winning strategy for the Trinamool Congress and DMK in the assembly elections held in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu this year and both the parties registered victories in their respective states. Goa is going to go to polls in February next year and the Trinamool Congress has said that it will field its candidates in the elections. Party chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit Goa on Thursday. Asked about Kishor’s statement, senior TMC MP and party spokesperson Saugata Rai told reporters in Kolkata, “PK had given us good suggestions in the last assembly elections but he is not a member of our party.” What he said are his views.’ Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Kishor supported the TMC in the assembly elections this year and supported the BJP in the 2014 general elections.

West Bengal Congress President Choudhary said, “His statements point towards some kind of conspiracy or understanding between him, TMC and BJP. TMC should be told whether it is supporting the BJP by opposing the Congress. BJP spokesperson Rajyavardhan Rathod told reporters in New Delhi that Kishor has not said anything that the country does not know as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed politics and (he) runs the government on the basis of people’s feedback. West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said, “Narendra Modi will run the country for many years to come, whether Prashant Kishor says it or not. However, we are happy that he has finally told the truth. Criticizing TMC after Kishor’s statement, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief Girish Chodankar said, “TMC has come to Goa since last one month. I have always said that Amit Shah and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have a hand in sending TMC to Goa. Now their strategists whose services have been taken on payment of money have confirmed the apprehensions and said that BJP will stop here. TMC has come to divide votes. TMC’s agenda has been exposed.

He later issued a statement in which he said that he had been saying time and again that Amit Shah and the ED had a hand in TMC’s ‘Operation Goa’ to divide the secular vote and benefit the BJP. The Congress leader said, ‘Prashant Kishor is neither a leader nor has any ideology. Whoever takes his service by paying money, he works with him. He said that the attack on Rahul Gandhi proves this. Another local Congress leader Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik tweeted, “If TMC strategists think BJP is not going anywhere, then their party should leave Goa with a sack. Instead of dividing votes, he should go to West Bengal. Otherwise it confirms that his presence here is a BJP game.
