Chandika Devi is considered to be a form of Maa Durga.
About 400 years ago, the temple of Maa Chandika was in Hardev of Bungachhina.
Maa Chandika Temple Pithoragarh is located in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Chandika Devi is considered to be a form of Maa Durga. In the Durga Mahatmya of Markandeya Purana, their actions and forms have been described. Maa Chandika is also called the goddess of justice. She fulfills the wishes of justice of all the devotees who come under her shelter.
It is said that about 400 years ago, the temple of Maa Chandika was in Hardev of Bungachhina. There is a temple of Maa Mahananda Devi near it. Maa Chandika and Mahananda Devi are sisters. Due to Chandika’s non-vegetarian tendency, Mother Nanda ordered her to leave this place. After which Chandika left the place and reached here after flowing in the Ramganga river, where today Chandika Ghat temple is situated.
It is said that at that time the villagers took out the idol of Mother Chandika from the river and kept it in a clean place. After which that idol could not be moved from that place. Devi appeared in a dream to a person living in the village and said that she would stay at this place. Since then Maa Chandika is sitting here.
