Fierce encounter after President’s assassination in Haiti, 4 killers put to death, 2 arrested

Joseph has banned all flights in the country and sealed the borders. At the same time, the Dominican Republic has deployed its army for security on the border of Haiti. Haiti Police Chief Leon Charles said three policemen were taken hostage by suspected killers on Wednesday. After this there was a fierce encounter between the police and the killers. In this, all the policemen were safely evacuated. He told that 4 killers were killed in the firing and two have been arrested. It is not yet clear how many more are absconding.

Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph said Moise’s wife and First Lady Martini Moise had been shot in the attack and was hospitalized. Joseph condemned the “disgusting, inhuman and brutal act” and said Haiti’s National Police and other authorities were maintaining control over the situation in the Caribbean country. “Democracy and republic will win,” he said. The killing took place late Tuesday night amid a deepening political and economic stability crisis in the country and increased gang violence. Under Moise’s rule, there was constant instability and anger in a country with a population of more than 11 million.
