Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. A war memorial has been erected at Bum La, Sikh Regiment in honor of Subedar Joginder Singh, the Sikh regiment who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1962 Indo-China war. Born on 26 January 2021 in Faridkot, Punjab, the military life of Subedar Singh started with the Sikh Regiment on 28 September 1936. During the 1962 war, Joginder Singh had driven the enemy back twice with his wisdom. Subedar Singh was patrolling in the Tagpeg La area of the Bum La Axis on 20 October from where he saw a large gathering of enemy forces on the McMahon Line, just opposite this spot. Singh sensed the enemy’s intentions in advance and immediately shared this information with the senior army officers.
After Joginder’s information, India started its preparations to deal with any situation. However, despite India’s preparation, China attacked India from Boom La Axis at around 5.30 am. Under a well-planned conspiracy from China, a strong army of about 200 enemies was sent for the attack. In such a situation, Subedar Singh was fully prepared to answer the enemy with his soldiers. As soon as he crossed the border, the Subedar started giving a strong answer to China. Many soldiers of the Chinese army were killed in this attack. After this, China once again retreated its army but once again it wanted to attack directly.

Even before the Chinese army’s plans could be successful, Subedar Joginder Singh with his platoon stood up in front of the enemy and once again stopped the Chinese soldiers from moving forward. However, by then more than half of his platoon soldiers had been martyred and the Subedar himself was also seriously injured.
Even in the wounded condition, he fought the enemy firmly. However, after killing many Chinese soldiers, most of the soldiers of Subedar Singh’s platoon were martyred. After this, seeing no effect on the enemies, Subedar Joginder Singh took out the rifle’s bayonet and jumped on the enemies shouting ‘Wahe Guru Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ki Fatah’. Many Chinese soldiers were killed in this attack. Joginder Singh was also martyred in this encounter. Due to this fighting skills of Subedar Joginder Singh, he was posthumously awarded the country’s highest award Param Vir Chakra.
