New Delhi. After months of turmoil and tension, finally Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday issued a notification for the appointment of the new ISI chief. After the notification issued by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, now Nadeem Anjum will be the new Chief of ISI. Anjum will assume his post from November 20. He will replace the current Chief Faiz Hameed.
The notification issued today is being considered as an exercise by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to ‘save reputation’. Earlier had reported that Imran Khan wanted to retain the current ISI chief, at least till the month of December. But the Army Chief had made it clear that Faiz Hameed could be kept on the post till November 15. The army chief had also told Imran Khan that the civilian government should not interfere in the affairs of the army.
It was also reported that Imran Khan had expressed his desire to meet all the contenders for the post of ISI chief, but the director general of the appointment panel had refused this too.
Taliban government and Faiz Hameed
Let us tell you that the Taliban, who captured Kabul in mid-August, announced their interim government in the country on 7 September. The announcement of the government was made only after Faiz Hameed’s visit to Kabul. It has also been said that Mulla Abdul Ghani Baradar was ‘demotion’ in the interim government due to pressure given by the ISI. Baradar has been the head of the Taliban’s Doha team and is now the deputy prime minister in the interim government.
No attention given to Doha team
The Taliban’s Doha team believed that the government needed to be made more inclusive so that the radical organization would get more recognition in the international community. This team was also in favor of including former President Hamid Karzai and CEO Abdullah Abdullah. From the Haqqani faction also, this team wanted to get Anas Haqqani included in the government.
