2002 Gujarat riots case: SC to hear Zakia Jafri’s plea on October 26

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on the petition filed by Zakia Jafri, wife of former Gujarat MP Ehsan Jafri. The next hearing on this petition will be on October 26. Zakia Jafri has filed this petition against the clean chit given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT had given clean chit to many people including the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravi Kumar allowed the appeal of Zakia Jafri’s counsel Kapil Sibal to defer the hearing. Along with this, the court has also said that now no hearing will be postponed. Sibal said – I am personally embarrassed. There is a record of about 23 thousand pages. We need a little more time. The date of hearing came suddenly.

On this, the court said that the information about the hearing was already given. So Sibal said that he appeals to postpone the hearing once. This Supreme Court has fixed 26 October as the date.
