Lie Flat: A unique movement launched by the youth of China, know the whole matter

Beijing. These days the Chinese government is facing a unique movement of the citizens of the country, especially the youth. The name of this movement is ‘Stay upright’ i.e. lie flat. Under this, just lie down and do as little work as possible.

The reason behind the growth of this movement is the fear among the youth that they will not be able to do better than their parents. This fear is also obvious, in fact, employees in China work very hard and their working hours are also more, but their income is not increasing as fast as the price is increasing.

According to local media, the unemployment rate in the 16-24 age group in China is 13.1 percent. The unemployment rate for all of China is 5.5 percent. If those 20 crore youths who have graduated last year are added to this, then this figure will be something else. Till a generation ago, the credit for China’s success went to this hard work. But, this new movement has broken this established fact and refused to participate in it by denying the long standing tradition for prosperity.

Luo Huazhong, 31, wrote a blog post in April titled. ‘Stay upright for justice’. Luo quit working as a factory worker and chose savings and petty work to make a living. He reached Sichuan in Tibet after riding 1300 miles bike, where he started a new life. The post showed Luo lying on his bed in a darkened room, with the curtains down. Soon this post went viral. Millennials of China took this post against the consumerist attitude. In this way the Chinese spread in the society and people made it their statement.

Elsie Chen wrote in an article in her New York Times that the censors removed the Tengping group, which had more than 9,000 members in the popular Internet forum Douben. The government also removed the posts of other Tengping forums with which more than 2 lakh members were associated. According to the same report, China’s Internet regulator has imposed a strict ban on new posts related to Tengping to the online platform. At the same time, Stan News Media has called Tangping shameful.

But experts say that this movement can bring a big change for China. The youth are feeling a lot of pressure. They feel that the promise that was made to them has been broken. Jiang Biao, professor of social anthropology at the University of Oxford, who focuses on Chinese society, says people are beginning to realize that making life better is not just about material things.
