Patna. In America’s famous Harvard University, an Indian student has played. Post-graduation student Sharad Sagar has been elected as the next president of the student union at Harvard Graduate School of Education. More than 1,200 students from 50 countries studying at the Harvard Graduate School of Education have selected Bihar resident Sharad Sagar for the highest post of students’ union president. Apart from Sharad Sagar, eight other candidates had contested for the post of President, defeating whom they have achieved this historic victory.
Harvard University officially announced the election results on September 21. Voting for Harvard students began on September 14 and ended on September 19. As president, Sharad Sagar will head the student union, which will consist of a vice-president, an administrator and other elected senators. Sagar will represent more than 1,200 graduate students from more than 50 countries at Harvard as the student union president. He will remain in this post till May 2022 i.e. his convocation at Harvard. Sharad Sagar has received the highest scholarship at Harvard and is also a prestigious KC Mahindra Scholar.

Harvard seemed like a distant impossible dream back then, but the journey from ‘home-school to Harvard’ is unbelievable. As President, I want to lay the foundation for a leadership at Harvard that can make a real difference in the lives of Harvard students in the days to come.

Background and achievements of Sharad Sagar
After his illustrious high school career, Sharad Sagar has won over 200 local, national and international quiz and debate competitions and represented India in more than six different countries on inter-governmental and United Nations platforms. He received a full scholarship of Rs 4 crore from Tufts University in the US to pursue his bachelor’s degree, where he broke major university records. In May 2016, Sagar was the first Indian to deliver a speech at the convocation in the history of the university. Within months of graduation, Sagar became the youngest person to receive the ‘Alumni Achievement Award’ in the university’s 160-year history. In 2017-18, Sagar was included in the list of ‘Queen’s Young Leaders’ by Queen Elizabeth of England.
