New York. Amid rising cases of delta variant infection of the coronavirus in the US, anti-Covid vaccines for children under the age of 12 may be available by the end of next month. This information has come to the fore in a media news.
A news published in the ‘New York Times’ newspaper quoted two health experts as saying that Kovid vaccines for children aged five to 11 years could be available by the end of October. This will be a relief for the families of underage children, as till now the vaccines were available only for children 12 years and above.

The news quoted former Food and Drug Administration commissioner and Pfizer board member Dr Scott Gottlieb as saying that approval of vaccines for underage children would require a careful and rapid review of clinical data.
Gottlieb said on the CBS program ‘Face the Nation’ that in a best-case scenario, Pfizer’s vaccines will be ready for underage children by October 31. Gottlieb said, ‘I trust the kind of data that Pfizer has collected.’
Dr James Versalovic, interim chief of pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital, said he agreed with Gottlieb about the possibility of vaccines for underage children being approved by October. “We are making every effort to take these tests forward,” he was quoted as saying in the news.

Versalovic said that he and his colleagues are seeing a record number of children’s infections, as cases of the highly contagious delta form infection increase in children’s hospitalizations. “We are still in a bad position and may possibly see another extreme,” he said. (agency input)
