This Indian player wants to open instead of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul

New Delhi. All-rounder Washington Sundar wants to open the innings for India in Test matches in the near future. Sundar bats at the top of the order in junior cricket and has made a mark in T20 cricket as a specialist spinner. The 22-year-old player from Tamil Nadu has played four Tests, one ODI and 31 T20 Internationals for India in which he has taken 32 wickets. He has also scored 312 runs with the help of three half-centuries. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are currently playing the responsibility of opening in Test cricket. In the T20 World Cup 2021 too, Rohit-Rahul are going to open for India.

A hand injury during a warm-up match in Britain in July took away Washington’s chance to play in the IPL as well as the ongoing T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. He was supposed to return purely as a batsman in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but it is learned that he has not received the necessary clearance to resume the game due to not attaining full fitness. As per the BCCI policy, he cannot be selected for the New Zealand series without a home match.

Washington said during an event, “It will be a privilege for me to play the role of an opener for the Indian Test team.” Excellent performances are expected from Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. “I can’t wait to see Virat bhai, KL Rahul and Jadeja,” Washington said.
