Punjab: Big decision of CM Channi- Income limit removed from Aashirwad scheme


Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has ordered relaxation in the annual income limit of the beneficiary girls of Aashirwad Yojana who lost both their mother and father during the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual income limit to take advantage of this scheme was earlier Rs 32,790.

Under the Ashirwad scheme, the state government gives 51 thousand rupees per beneficiary for the marriage of women from low-income families. This scheme was earlier known as Shagun Yojana.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that on remarriage of Scheduled Castes, Christian Community, Backward Classes and Castes, Economically Weaker Sections, widows of any caste and widows or divorced women belonging to Scheduled Castes. Financial benefits will be available under this scheme. The Chief Minister said that other rules of the scheme would remain the same.

Big decisions taken before
CM Charanjit Singh Channi took big decisions even after the first cabinet meeting. He decided to waive off the bills of 80 per cent of the people using electricity up to two kilowatts. He said that the government will pay the outstanding bills, due to which the government will have to bear the burden of Rs 1200 crore. During this, on the displeasure of Navjot Singh Sidhu, he had said that he is trying to talk to him. He had said that Sidhu is intelligent and settled. We will resolve the issue amongst ourselves.
