IND vs PAK: Firecrackers were burst in India on Pakistan’s victory, cannot be burst in Diwali, there is a lot of hippocracy: Sehwag

New Delhi. Virender Sehwag on Monday told the ‘hypocrisy’ behind the ban on crackers on Diwali. Fireworks were allegedly burst by citizens to celebrate Pakistan’s victory over India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match. In a tweet from his official Twitter account, Sehwag jokingly asked, ‘What was the harm in fireworks on Diwali?’ In fact, after the India-Pakistan match (India vs Pakistan) in the T20 World Cup, many people have alleged that many people in India celebrated the 10-wicket loss of Team India.

Virender Sehwag tweeted in this matter, saying, “Firecrackers are banned during Diwali, but yesterday in some parts of India, firecrackers were burst to celebrate Pakistan’s victory. Well (OK) they must be celebrating the victory of cricket. So what is the harm in bursting crackers on Diwali. Why Hippocracy? All knowledge is remembered only then.”

Delhi resident Virender Sehwag’s reaction comes after the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) in September ordered a complete ban on the sale and bursting of all types of firecrackers in the national capital till January 1, 2022.

Apart from Virender Sehwag, former Indian cricketer and currently BJP MP Gautam Gambhir made a tweet alleging something similar. In a tweet, Gambhir alleged that crackers celebrating Pakistan’s victory ‘cannot be Indian’. Along with this, he also used embarrassing hashtags.

The DPCC has directed the District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners of Police to implement the instructions and submit the daily action taken report. Given the significant link between air pollution and respiratory infections, bursting of crackers is not conducive to larger community health under the coronavirus pandemic crisis.

The order said, “Several experts have indicated the possibility of a third wave of Kovid-19. Hence, it is believed that mass gatherings by bursting firecrackers will not only result in violation of social distancing norms, but high level of air pollution will also lead to serious health issues in Delhi.” Delhi (where the amount of pollution increases due to stubble burning in neighboring states during the winter months) is made worse by the bursting of crackers.
