Mumbai Latest News: The case pertains to the alleged leak of a report prepared by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla about ‘corruption’ in police transfers in Maharashtra.
Mumbai. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has responded to a questionnaire sent by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police in connection with the alleged phone tapping and data leak case. It is noteworthy that the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police had summoned Jaiswal, the former Director of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra, asking him to appear on October 14 to record his statement. The officer said that Jaiswal was first given a questionnaire on August 2. Was sent, but they did not respond. After this, the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Cyber Crime Cell sent reminder letters in this regard on September 6 and September 23, after which he was summoned on October 14.
A senior police officer said, “He (Jaiswal) has sent the questionnaire response a few days back. However, he did not say whether the CBI director sent this reply through e-mail. The case pertains to the alleged leak of a report prepared by IPS officer Rashmi Shukla about ‘corruption’ in police transfers in Maharashtra. At that time she was the head of the State Intelligence Department (SID). It is also alleged that during the investigation, phone tapping of senior officials and politicians was done illegally. Jaiswal was the state DGP at the time of this incident.
Citing this report, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged corruption in the state police. The police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons under sections 30 of the Indian Telegraph Act, as well as sections of the Information Technology Act and the Official Secrets Act, for alleged phone tapping and illegally leaking SID reports.
