The Taliban has appointed its Doha-based spokesman Shaheen as the new Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations. Haq said the Secretary-General had received a letter on September 15 from the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations signed by Ghulam Isakzai, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. It contains the list of Afghan delegations for the 76th session of the General Assembly. It names Isakzai as the head of the delegation.
Haq said that the UN Secretariat has sent both these letters to the members of the Credentials Committee of the 76th session of the General Assembly after consultation with the office of the President of the General Assembly. This committee will decide who represents Afghanistan in the United Nations.
