It is a matter of pride for Hathras of Uttar Pradesh that the coach of this hockey team Piyush Dubey is a resident of Rasmai village in Sadabad. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Piyush Dubey and congratulated him on the victory. There is also an atmosphere of celebration in village Rasmai. The Dubey family is also feeling proud. Piyush is the person who stayed away from home with the zeal to prepare a team for the country and did not meet his wife and daughters for 3 years.
Hockey team’s head coach Piyush Dubey’s father Gavendra Singh Dubey was an officer in the land conservation department and mother was also a teacher. During his posting in Prayagraj, Piyush started playing hockey in 1994 on the advice of elder brother Shravan Kumar Dubey. He also got guidance from Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Premshankar Shukla. Within a few days he became the captain of the team. Later he also played at Prayagraj University and State level.

Piyush passed the coach’s exam from Patiala in 2003 and got an appointment in Patiala. In 2004, Piyush Dubey became the coach of the hockey team of Kendriya Vidyalaya there. After this, in 2008, worked as the coach of the team of Prayagraj University. From here he topped the examination of Sai’s coach and was made the coach of Sai’s Sonepat branch. From here he prepared many players for National, International.

It was under his leadership that for the first time Sai’s team won a medal in hockey at the national level. Earlier Sai’s team had not won any medal. Due to his consistent performance and better training, he got an opportunity to work as the coach of the Indian hockey team. Since 2019, he is the coach of the Indian hockey team continuously. Under his leadership, India has won a medal after 41 years by performing well in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Piyush takes inspiration from Swami Vivekananda
Piyush Dubey’s family tells that he is not only inspired by Swami Vivekananda, but he has imbibed his ideals in his life. Even as a coach, he abstains from non-vegetarian food, garlic and onions. He also got the quality of renunciation from his ideals. It has been more than three years, he has not met his wife, daughters. His family lives in Sonipat. Along with being rich in writing, he is also interested in music.

Piyush Dubey’s grandfather Khemkaran Singh Dubey was a great wrestler. Father Gavendra Singh and Shravan Kumar Dubey have also been wrestlers, while uncle Udayveer Singh is a skilled swimmer. Bhai Lakhan Singh Dubey is also associated with the game. That’s why he had made hockey his future. Due to the game being in blood, today the hockey team has created history in the Olympics after four decades under his leadership, while his nephew Jagat Yuvraj Dubey is also a boxer.

Piyush Dubey, who considered Gurugram’s famous industrialist Bhai Shravan Kumar Dubey as an ideal, wanted to serve the country by becoming an IAS under the inspiration of his father Gavendra Singh Dubey. But fate had something else in mind. Even after success in the preliminary examination of UPSC, he chose hockey. He also holds a master’s degree in economics. The elder brother tells that he always topped in whatever examinations, tests he gave.

The success of the hockey team was celebrated in Piyush Dubey’s native village Rasmai. The hockey team led by the village’s son has created history by winning a medal in the Olympics. A grand celebration was celebrated in the program led by Lakhan Dubey. People danced a lot to the tune of drums, drums by distributing sweets.
