Every day 2 lakh tonnes of E-Waste comes out in Delhi, this big plan made for disposal


New Delhi. In Delhi, where many schemes are being worked on for the disposal of wet and dry waste. At the same time, efforts will also be made to intensify the process of disposal of e-waste coming out of Delhi in large quantities. The National Capital Region, Delhi generates about 2 lakh tonnes of e-waste every day which is generated from electrical appliances, electronic items, computers and accessories and mobile phones. Preparations are being made to dispose of it.

In the review meeting held under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, it has been decided that for scientific and environmentally safe disposal, renewal, recycling and disposal of e-waste, e-waste management eco-park in Delhi. (E-Waste Management Eco-Park) will be established.

In the meeting, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Health and Energy Minister Satyendar Jain and Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev, DDA VC Anurag Jain, and MCD commissioners were also prominently present.

LG Baijal said that it is estimated that about 2 lakh tonnes of e-waste is generated in Delhi which is generated from electrical appliances, electronic items, computers and accessories and mobile phones. He said that this waste is not only potentially very dangerous to the environment, but also has a serious impact on human health.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to get its permanent disposal done at the earliest. He stressed that setting up of e-waste management park would be a big step in the direction of fulfilling this objective. This park will be the first of its kind in the country which will also set an example for other states.

During this, after deliberation, it has also been decided that the park should be established in a time bound manner, with various committees in conjunction with DDA for identification of suitable land, latest technology and integration of unorganized sector as well as waste. Along with the collector is identifying a suitable model.

These committees will have representatives from the Delhi government, DDA, pollution control agencies and urban local bodies as other stakeholders, besides scientific advisors from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev has been advised to constitute a steering committee in this matter at the earliest. Along with this, it has also been advised to select a consultant to prepare the Detail Project Report (DPR) for this. The Steering Committee will oversee the entire process till the park becomes operational.
